Well I can't join you in the Citadel of Heroin ;)

Your going to love those pans! When my mom was out here in the fall she wouldn't rest until I got a small saucepan (something I didn't feel I needed). Well after some research I settled on the Calaphon. It's wonderful! I now also posess a Calaphon griddle. I don't have any other pieces yet - don't dare go into the store that sells that stuff (you thought yesterdays spree was bad? you should see me really shop! Thankfully I don't do it often, or have the desire.) Anyway I love the little saucepan - use it all the time. I love the way it looks, cleans up, and the handle doesn't get hot. Oh and you can put it in the oven! (well if mine worked you could.. but I digress) The best thing is when I called the company the customer service person actualyl was able to explain the chemical compounds/process of how it was made. (I refuse to have teflon and was concerned this was a newer form under a new name). I was favorably impressed. =)

um.. I'll stop now. =) Enjoy!

I already had 2 calphalon omlet pans & a Calphalon wok (plus a couple of spoons by them too), so I know how much Calphalon is good. Oh yeah, some baking pans & cookie sheets. I have a 2.5 qt stainless steel Calphalon saucepan, but it doesn't clean as nicely as the nonstick hard anodized pans.

So, why the ban of Teflon? The late great Newton graduate Roy Plunkett invented/discovered it! (When asked "what are you most proud of" with regards to Teflon, Roy always said it was the use of Teflon in making artificial hearts. He even had one fellow thank him for his product because he was alive thanks to his artificial heart.)

Teflon when heated to a certain temperature does something.. and it also causes cancer (not that many things don't!) but the heating thing when I read the findings was enough for me to get rid of my 2 teflon pans.
